The Weather Outside Is Frightful, and So Is The Heating Bill!! |
 |
Many of you may be like me. I have heard that fuel and natural gas prices are continuing on an upward trend. I did not pay much mind to the rising cost because I was not using fuel and natural gas. Then the heater was turned on. I opened the gas bill and was floored! For this reason, I and many other economical consumers are choosing energy-efficient window treatments. Simply by installing, raising, and lowering the appropriate shades homeowners can save on their heating bill. |
In an article in a recent Window Fashions magazine Jennifer Modica from the maker of the Graber Crystal Pleat cellular shade says, "As our economy changes and energy costs rise, we have noticed an increased demand for both cellular and solar shades." Insulating window shades are fast becoming the essential element in window fashion. |
"Simply by installing, raising, and lowering… homeowners can save on their heating bill."
|
The Experts
Most all window covering company owners agree that the demand for window treatments to assist in managing comfort in the home and office is increasing. What is the reason for this drastic change? People want more and better insulating values out of a more permanent window treatment. In addition the current architectural trends lend toward the need for better views.
Choices
From single, double, and triple cell cellular shades, to roller shades and woven shades with lining, there are options for protection from the elements. |
With the U.S. Department of energy estimating that window coverings can save on heating and cooling costs by 25%, making the choice to get a shade with better insulating value is a must. We offer cellular shades, sunscreen shades, and natural wood shades to keep that room nice and toasty and keep that heating bill very chilly! Oh and don't forget to look at motorizing those shades of insulation. Motorization gives you year round climate control at the push of a button.

Tips and Trade Secrets |
The days are shorter, the nights longer – it's time to stop looking through that bare, black hole of a window and get it ready for the winter and holiday season!
Raise Your Room Temperature!
As the temperature drops outside, adding color, texture and window treatments will dramatically change a room from cool to warm and cozy. Adding panels and a top treatment can be just the thing to warm up a room (lined treatments act as an insulator). It's a perfect time to change out your existing window treatments with wood blinds or cellular shades … their insulating properties will keep rooms warmer all winter long (and cooler next summer!) |
Soft Treatment Trends for the Winter Season
• French flip panels
• Unusual pleated headings on panels – inverted, goblets, cartridges, ruching
• Color-blocked columns of fabric
• Classic swags and cascades with dressmaker details
Holiday Decorating "Buzzwords"
You'll be hearing a lot about these holiday decorating trends as the season approaches! |
|
• Warmth you'll be seeing a lot of the warm side of the color spectrum – sumptuous reds, oranges, pinks, honeys and yellows. Create distinctive color schemes for the holidays with one or more of these colors. Pinks and reds are perfect for a nostalgic or Rococo-themed holiday.
• Retro/Pop Op-art patterns, strong contrasts, graphic looks – the attitude that "The Future is now!" |
Don't discount the classic looks as produced by the great couture houses – Chanel (tweeds and boucles), Pucci, Courréges, Mary Quant. Think back to the 50's and the flocked tree with pops of brilliant color for your inspiration. Retro/Pop looks work in traditional settings as a wonderful contrast that creates variety, making a room or window come to life.
• Shock the colors aren't new – clear, bright hues – but the interest is in the combination and schemes. |
Can't find the right fabric for your holiday window decorating scheme? Create your own! Alternate panels in "shocking" combinations like fuchsia and berry, or coffee bean and citrine, on multiple windows.
• Applied Layer design techniques and methods in the room and on the window. Layered, feminine, girly looks are window treatments hottest new |
trends. It All Adds Up to Pretty Decorating! Take a lesson from the fashion runway and consider tweeds, plaids and stripes mixed and matched in panels and top treatments. Buy some of the fabulous new brooches and pin them on tab top panels or use as holdbacks – buy several and attach them all the way down the edge of stationary panels for a sparkling effect.

I Shutter to Think |
 |
Are shutters the new wave of the future? Are they only for the wealthy? Are they accessible? No. No. and Yes! Shutters have been around for ages. However, starting sometime around 1995 shutters began to change. Before this period shutters were only seen in very upscale urban retreats. They were expensive and a family had to have serious cash to buy them.
Then technology started to catch up with cost and today more than ever families with average incomes can afford to purchase shutters. But people are not purchasing because of price. In a recent article Dix Jarman, CEO of Sunburst Shutters says, "the entire shutter market is growing because of a classic American philosophy- do it once and do it right. |
People are tired of replacing blinds, drapes, and even low quality shutters year after year, and they are looking for a long lasting alternative." The right shutter looks good, last forever, and adds value to a home; the perfect combination for the perfect window treatment.
Now comes the buying process. Choose the right source to buy from. Price is always a factor. However, never sacrifice quality, service and innovation. Look for a supplier who goes above and beyond.

Decorating 101 |
How's your sense of direction?
The direction your windows face affects the amount of light that illuminates your home. A few things to remember as you're choosing your window treatments: North-facing windows offer the clearest, most consistent light and the coldest exposure. Energy-efficient treatments are a smart option. East facing windows offer warm, bright light, especially in the morning. Treatments that block UV rays are a good choice. West-facing windows admit the hottest, haziest light of the day. One or combinations of light-diffusing treatments are recommended. South facing windows receive good light year-round, and cast a warm, golden glow on interiors. |
Light-diffusing treatments can help protect fabric and furniture. Left untreated, your windows can let in enough light to fade your furnishings. So unless you need an excuse to buy a new sofa, consider a window treatment that blocks UV rays. When closed, many of our products block damaging sunbeams. When open, they filter and diffuse harsh light, while leaving your room bathed in a warm glow. Windows keep getting bigger and bigger. So do heating and air conditioning costs .Because of this change you need window treatments with high R-values, or "resistance-to-heat-loss ratings." The higher your window treatments R-values, the more energy efficient they are. |

Need to add a little height?
Or maybe hide an architectural shortcoming? Window treatments can perform feats of magic. They can make a big room feel cozy or small rooms seem grand. Got a pair of windows with different dimensions? Let curtain rods be your magic wands. |
Place them at different heights above each window frame and voila- your windows suddenly look alike. Enlist a cornice to even up a room's sense of balance. Or put a single treatment above three adjacent windows to conceal the wall space between them. You'll get the illusion of having one large window. It's all about bringing out the positive. Feng who? Feng Shui. (Pronounced Fung Shway.) Known as the Chinese art of placement, it's a combination of interior design, astrology and ancient philosophy. |
Feng Shui devotees believe if you place your belongings at just the right spots in your home and pay attention to which direction your chi (natural earth energy) is flowing, you can lead a more harmonious life.
